Welcome to the Icelandic Soroptimist Week - Dates to be decided

It is with great sadness, that we inform you that the committee is forced to postpone the travel week that was to be held in Iceland this summer of 2022. The reason is complications due to the Corona virus, Covid 19 and restrictions and uncertainities on travel.

Following is a short description of our ideas for the week. We hope to be able to organise it as soon as possible but we want to be on the safe side. 

Explore Iceland together with your Icelandic sisters in the Club of Hafnarfjordur and Gardabaer. Share the Soroptimist spirit in the wonderful Icelandic nature. Soroptimist sisters are most welcome to bring companions, husbands, children and friends.

A very important purpose of this week is to welcome foreign Soroptimists in Iceland and share the soroptimist spirit in this fund-raising project of our club. All work contribution during the week is done voluntarily by the Soroptimst sisters in Hafnarfjordur and Gardabaer. The sisters will be cooking your meals and joining you on the trips and other events.

This is the 15th week that is organised by the Club of Hafnarfjordur and Gardabaer for fund raising purposes. One of our main charity projects is a rehabilitation center in Krýsuvík and a part of the programme is a visit to the center.

Preliminary programme - To be decided

• Arrival – get together evening
• The Golden Circle – Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir, a green house
• Snæfellsnes – west coast
• The South coast - waterfalls, glaciers
• Bessastaðir, Reykjanes peninsula, Krýsuvík – farewell evening
• Departure

Eftirtalin verkefni voru styrkt á árinu 2020

• Verkefni í heimabyggð: Styrkur til nýstúdents, stúlku sem hefur verið góð fyrirmynd
• Verkefni í heimabyggð: Mæðrastyrksnefnd Hafnarfjarðar og Styrktarsjóður Garðakirkju, fyrir jólin 2020
• Verkefni á landsvísu: Jólagjafir til Krýsuvíkur, meðferðarheimilis fyrir þá sem hafa ánetjast vímuefnum og misst stjórn á lífi sýnu

The following projects were funded during  year 2020

• Project in the local area: Grant to a girl who is graduating from gymnasium and has been a good role model
• Project in the local area: Grants to commitees in Hafnarfjordur and Gardabaer who support families in need of financial support before Christmas 2020
• Project nationwide: Christmas gifts to Krýsuvík, a treatment home for those who have become addicted to drugs and lost control over their live

• Konur vatn og forysta, verkefni Alþjóðasamtaka Soroptimista
• Jólagjafir til Krýsuvíkur, meðferðarheimilis fyrir þá sem hafa ánetjast vímuefnum og misst stjórn á lífi sýnu
• Sjónarhóll, heimili fyrir konur sem hafa útskrifast frá meðferðarheimilinu í Krýsuvík

• Women, water and leadership, a project organized by Soroptimist International
• Christmas gifts to Krýsuvík, a treatment home for those who have become addicted to drugs and lost control over their lives
• Sjónarhóll, home for women who have graduated from the treatment home in Krýsuvík
